Taylor Swift è nata a Wyomissing, in

Pennsylvania. È cresciuta in una fattoria

di abeti natalizi intorno alla città di

Reading, figlia di Andrea e Scott Swift,

un intermediario finanziario e una

casalinga. Ha un fratello minore, Austin,

18 anni. Quando era in quarta elementare,

vinse una gara nazionale di poesia con un

poema di tre pagine intitolato Monster In

My Closet(Un mostro nel mio armadio).

All'età di dieci anni, iniziò ad esibirsi nei

pressi della sua città natale, cantando a

concorsi di karaoke, festival e fiere, e a

scrivere canzoni. Era membro di una

compagnia teatrale ata da ragazzini,

TheatreKids Live!, in cui ha dimostrato di

avere talento da attrice comica e senso

dell'umorismo. Dopo le sue esibizioni di

karaoke ad una delle feste del cast, le fu

suggerito di intraprendere una carriera nella musica country, piuttosto che in

teatro.

Il gestore della compagnia, Kirk Cremer,

la aiutò a trovare un locale in cui esibirsi

con le basi strumentali di canzoni country.

Incoraggiata dal successo delle sue

esibizioni e dal crescente numero di

spettatori, iniziò a cantare in altri locali e

in serate karaoke.

Taylor iniziò a suonare la chitarra a 12

anni, grazie a un tecnico di com***r che le mostrò come suonare tre accordi. Dopo

averli imparati, Taylor scrisse la sua prima

canzone, Lucky You. Iniziò a scrivere

canzoni regolarmente, come uno sfogo per

la sofferenza che provava nel non avere

amicizie a scuola. Le altre ragazzine si

comportavano male con lei e la

escludevano, così lei scriveva canzoni su di loro.
